Channing is consistently recognised as one of the best independent schools in North London; an independent school for girls aged 4 to 18, based in Highgate, where every pupil is encouraged to discover their interests, develop their talents, and build lasting friendships. Our inspiring environment fosters academic achievement and personal growth.
The school actively prepares pupils for the future.
A visionary all-girls school full of extremely confident, capable and engaging young women.
‘Fearless’ teaching and learning, encouraging girls to step out of their comfort zone and be ‘10 per cent braver’, is reaping academic rewards. It is a useful life lesson too, but not at the expense of school being fun.
Excellent academics, fantastic pastoral care and a wonderful way of imbuing girls with self-confidence, Channing makes a strong argument for single-sex education.
Girls throw themselves into all aspects of school life, and teacher commitment goes way beyond the classroom.

2025 - 2026 Highlights: Religion, Philosophy and Ethics
From the purpose of life to medical ethics, Channing pupils embraced challenging questions with curiosity and confidence this year. Year 7 explored Socrates, Plato, Aristotle and Stoicism before putting Socrates on trial, while Year 8 examined Abrahamic faiths, human rights and social justice. Year 9 applied moral philosophy to healthcare, crime and punishment. Pupils also entered the ISRSA Theology, Philosophy and Religion Essay Competition, with Beatrice W’s essay on the Great Flood highly commended. Beyond lessons, the new student-led PPE Society encouraged rigorous debate across philosophy, politics and economics, reflecting Channing’s fearless approach to learning throughout an exciting academic year.
Channing students are celebrating an outstanding set of A level results this summer, with 90.9% of grades awarded at A*-B, 62.4% A*-A and 22.3% at A*. Over half of the subjects have achieved a full set of results at A*-B grade, while over a third of our students achieved all A*-A grades.
Mrs Lindsey Hughes, @channing_hm, is full of praise for her Year 13 cohort and their teachers alike:
"I am delighted to congratulate all our students and teachers for these wonderful results. This is a great achievement and a direct result of their hard work and dedication.
Of course, exam grades don’t tell the whole story. What pleases us just as much as the students achieving strings of top grades are those who have enjoyed significant personal triumphs - whose hard-fought results are enabling them to pursue their chosen course at the institution of their choice. 92% of the year group will be doing just that, including overseas in the USA, Canada and France.
We wish all our leavers every success as they take their next steps and look forward to welcoming them back to Channing over the next few years to share their experiences and inspire future generations of students.”
Congratulations Year 13!

Good luck to our Year 13 students receiving their A Level results tomorrow!
2025 - 2026 Highlights: Junior School Philosophy
Philosophical enquiry has continued to flourish at Channing Junior School, earning the school renewed Bronze Award status from Thoughtful. Guided by the 4C principles of Caring, Collaborative, Creative and Critical thinking, pupils develop confidence, curiosity, empathy and independence. Across the year groups, they have explored increasingly challenging questions about friendship, happiness, responsibility, leadership, fairness, freedom and bias. Activities linked philosophy with subjects including History, while structured discussions encouraged respectful listening, reasoned arguments and thoughtful disagreement. By embedding the Channing Characteristics within philosophy, the school empowers pupils to question assumptions, consider alternative viewpoints and become reflective, resilient and independent lifelong thinkers.
2025 - 2026 Highlights: Psychology
It has been an outstanding year for Psychology at Channing, shaped by curiosity, ambition and enthusiasm for understanding the human mind. Year 13 students explored neuroscience and human-computer interfacing with Dr Guy Sutton during Brain Day, while distinguished lectures from Professors Francesca Happé MBE and Tali Sharot examined autism research and optimism bias. Students also demonstrated their independent scholarship through new editions of the departmental magazine, Neuro Narratives, covering topics from procrastination to family breakdown. Using virtual reality headsets, they explored innovative approaches to exposure therapy, combining established psychological theory with emerging technology and gaining valuable insight into future clinical practice.
