Music at Lunchtime – Friday 11 October

Friday’s recital was a delightful showcase of musical talent, featuring a variety of genres and performances that captivated the audience. It began with a beautiful rendition of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Think of Me” from The Phantom of the Opera. Sung by Becky R-A from 10CS, her performance was filled with emotion and grace, setting a high standard for the rest of the afternoon. Becky’s control and vocal technique truly brought the character to life, leaving the audience mesmerized.

Next on the program was an exciting and energetic performance of the iconic James Bond theme, played by Penelope P in 7CWi on the cornet. Penelope’s lively interpretation of the theme filled the room with suspense and drama, much like the famous secret agent himself. Her dynamic range and precision on the instrument were impressive, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats.

Following this, Circe S from 7JG took the stage with a heartfelt rendition of Olivia Rodrigo’s hit song “Logical.” Circe’s passionate performance showcased her gorgeous voice and emotional depth, making her connection to the song palpable. She sang with a level of maturity beyond her years, which resonated strongly with the audience.

Iris M from 7JG then delivered a stunning performance of “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana. Her voice soared with confidence, filling the room with a sense of adventure and determination, much like the character she portrayed. Her stage presence and vocal clarity made this a standout moment in the recital.

The concert concluded with an exceptional performance by Thea I in 8VS, who played the first movement of Mozart’s Violin Sonata No. 6, K. 306. Thea’s technical proficiency and virtuosic skill were evident throughout, bringing Mozart’s intricate compositions to life. Her poised and elegant playing rounded off the recital perfectly.
