Year 10 Visit to Olympic Park

Posted: 17th October 2022

On Thursday 6 October, we visited the Olympic Park in Stratford to investigate the impact that an urban redevelopment scheme has had on the quality of life.We used stratified sampling to select 4 different sites: Stratford New Town, East Village,The Copper Box and Hackney Wick. In these areas we completed surveys to collect both quantitative (car number plates) and qualitative (environmental quality survey, photos & field sketch) data to measure variations in the quality of life. It was a very interesting place to study as within a small radius there was a wide range of urban environments affecting the quality of life.

Overall, we concluded that in terms of traffic, green spaces, litter, building quality and services the East Village and Copper Box areas within the Olympic Park had a better quality of life; though there were other characteristics such as feeling a sense of community that we were not able to measure.
