Sustainability Week

Posted: 7th October 2022

This week is Sustainability Week at Channing. On Monday we had Eco Art in the sunshine by the school pond. Students from throughout the years made biodegradable bird feeders from pine cones, acorn jewellery, clay and foliage animals, watercolour painting using sycamore seeds, and a bug hotel which is now open to insects outside Brunner House.

On Tuesday over 40 students from Year 7-13 watched a film by Cal Major, the CEO of environmental charity Seaful, which told the story of her paddle boarding around the Isle of Skye examining the problem of plastic pollution. The students then had a live online question and answer session, where they asked Cal about the problems of single-use plastics and what Channing could do to help protect our oceans.

On Thursday we held our own mini clean air day with Highgate School to try to reduce air pollution in the local area by asking students and staff not to drive to school for the day. Eco reps from every form in the school measured the air pollution and surveyed students on how they normally travel to school. We look forward to reporting on the outcomes!
