Today’s lunchtime concert, after a brief pause last week, was a refreshing reminder of the fabulous musical talent in this school. First up was the Guitar Ensemble, featuring Nadia Z (11DK), Suki D (8LV), and Violet D (8CC), playing ‘Let Her Go’ by Passenger. Such an emotional piece often requires the tender timbre of a guitar, and three provided a depth that could not have been achieved by just one. Even though they were down a player, they took it in their stride and were perfectly synchronised. It’s clear they worked hard to reach such a high level!
Next was Charlotte R (8EGi), playing ‘Allegretto’ on the flute. She is exceptionally proficient and demonstrated this to the audience by delivering perfect musical clarity, both in the notes and dynamics of the piece. Clarity like this is considerably harder on wind instruments, so extra commendation to Charlotte!
Following that, Flora G (11HWO) performed Rachmaninov’s 3rd movement of Sonata for Cello. What an outstanding performance! Flora perfectly captured the emotion and feeling characteristic of Rachmaninov’s compositions, and the passion and vigour in her playing were more than evident. What a treat for those lucky enough to be in the audience!
To conclude the concert today was Lara G (8VS), singing ‘Wouldn’t It Be Loverly’ from My Fair Lady. Fabulous! She acted out the song as she sang, engaging the audience with her expressive musical choices and impeccable diction.
The Founders Hall is not an easy venue in which to perform—congratulations to all performers this week!
