Channing’s Sporting Success: Cup Wins, Tournaments, and Top Talent

Football

On Wednesday, 9th October, we played against Highlands in the Middlesex Cup Second Round and won 4-0. Dahlia (Year 8) scored the first goal early in the first half, followed by Bea, Eva, and Poppy (Year 7). From the start, the midfield and strikers applied a lot of pressure, and the defence stayed solid throughout, especially with Amaya (Year 7), who quickly controlled and passed the overhead lobs from the opposition’s goalkeeper. Highlands had a few chances to score, but thanks to some brilliant saves by Erin (Year 7), no goals were conceded. Dominating the match from start to finish, we’ve now advanced to the quarter-finals!

South Hampstead 7-a-side Football Tournament

Tuesday, 8th October, saw an U13 team play in the annual South Hampstead 7-a-side football tournament. The event involved five matches against Highgate, South Hampstead, City of London Girls, North London Collegiate, and Francis Holland. The afternoon was very wet, and the pitches soon churned into mud, making playing conditions difficult for every team.

The team of Mathilde, Meera, Holly, Edi, Octavia, Charlotte, Skye, and captain Ava battled bravely against some very good sides and had some incredibly close games. However, at the end of the tournament, with one win against North London Collegiate and four defeats, the team finished fifth out of the six teams. Special mention should go to Edi and Holly for some outstanding play, and also to Octavia in goal, who was the only Year 7 in the team.

Netball

Last Thursday, the U15 team played in the U15 Middlesex Schools Preliminary Tournament. As a team, we did really well with 2 wins, 2 draws, and 1 loss. Our defence was fierce and worked together efficiently, the mid-court was fast and agile, while our shooters had beautiful movement and got most of the shots in. SHHS was the hardest game as we lost 12-2, but we won 22-3 against St Helens and 15-1 against St Augustine’s. We drew against Mill Hill and NLCS. These games were very close and intense to play and watch. Overall, we came third. We played well together and did an excellent job.
